I give the following instructions to my patients after laser treatment. However,

Wash your feet and toes every day, making sure you dry it completely ... especially between the toes.
Apply anti-fungal skin cream between the toes, around your nails, and on the bottom and sides of your feet (but not the nails). This will reduce the amount of fungus that lives on the skin around the nails. By reducing the amount of fungus around the nail, you will reduce the likelihood of your nail be reinfected. Use as shown or twice a day for two weeks, then once a day to reduce the chances of another fungal nail infection. The anti-fungal cream should be one of the following active ingredients: 1% clotrimazole, tolnaftate 1%, 2% miconazole or Butenafine 1%.
Bleach your socks or buy new socks. Why would you put your covered in a sock can be infected nails?
Keep the inside of your shoes dry and fungus. Fungus loves the heat and humidity. You can use a spray or an antifungal powder like Lamisil or Lotrimin to reduce the risk of fungus growing in your shoes. There's even a device called "Steri-Shoe" that kills odor-causing bacteria and fungi by shining ultraviolet light sterilization in your shoes. This is a very effective way to make sure your shoes are not reinfect your toes.
Avoid using clippers and files infected nails. Clean them by boiling or bleach diluted. Make sure all nail tools you use at home or in the nail salon are cleaned as well.
Keep your nails short. Long nails tend to break, allowing easy access for fungi reinfect the nail.
Wear sandals or flip-flops in public places that are wet such as bathrooms of the hotel rooms and swimming pools.
